Artist Statement
For twenty years my art has been about representing themes of nature and sci-fi in the most organic sense using the interaction of materials and space. I begin with sketches so I am allowed the freedom of unlimited imagination before proceeding to the practicality of fabrication. I am always considering not only the basic form, but also the play of light and shadow on my work and its surroundings. During this voyage of 3-d I have developed a retro-style approach / technique of metal assembly and fabrication using cold connections. I use copper & aluminum mesh and perforated aluminum and recycled stainless steel and copper sheet metal along with great lengths of copper and aluminum wire. These materials offer both a challenge and opportunity to shape and fill space with dimensional hand shaped elements. I continue to achieve my expectations for each sculpture by creating movement with minimal elements that would appear to have grown into the composition. Each element is designed, patterned, cut, shaped, airbrushed/clear coated and then assembled. The stainless support elements of my dimensional mobiles are cut, balanced, forged, drilled and then refinished and high polished for a clean elegant design. I have a successful history collaborating with collectors, designers, and art consultants on a variety of commissions. My sculpture has been readily adapted to both commercial and residential spaces and can be found in galleries, private collections, corporate offices, hospitals and in the television and movie industries.
